Missing a tooth? Use two years of health fund cover for one implant
A dental implant is completed in two stages, a few months apart. If your extras cover includes major dental, you can claim the implant surgery against this year's limit and the implant crown against next year's — so your fund contributes twice.
Claimed on your 2026 major dental limit
Claimed on your 2027 major dental limit
For members of Bupa, St Luke's, HBF, Medibank, HCF, nib and other Australian funds with major dental cover. Claim on the spot through HICAPS.
If your fund pays $1,050 per year toward major dental:
| Implant + crown | $4,099 |
| 2026 fund benefit (implant) | −$1,050 |
| 2027 fund benefit (crown) | −$1,050 |
| Estimated out of pocket | $1,999 |
Illustration only. Your benefit depends on your policy's annual limit and the amount it pays per item.
How it works
- Book a free implant consultation. We check the implant is right for you and give you a written quote with item numbers.
- Check your cover. Give the item numbers to your health fund to confirm your benefit for each stage and any waiting periods.
- Implant placed before 31 December. Claimed against your 2026 major dental limit.
- Crown fitted from January. Once the implant has healed (usually around 3 months), the crown is claimed against your 2027 limit.
Offer ends 31 December 2026. Implant surgery must be completed by 31 December 2026 to claim against 2026 limits. Suitability for an implant is confirmed at consultation; healing times vary between patients. Health fund benefits, annual limits, benefit years and waiting periods are set by your fund and vary by policy. Some policies exclude implants or cap them separately. Most funds reset annual limits on 1 January; check yours before booking. Fees are confirmed in a written quote.
Three bridges, six or more implants
3-On-6™ replaces every tooth in one jaw with three separate fixed bridges — one across the front and one on each side — each supported by its own implants.
Where there's enough bone and gum, the new teeth sit on your own gum line rather than on pink gum-coloured material, and the gaps between bridges let you floss and brush around each implant, much like natural teeth.
It isn't suitable for everyone. Your consultation and 3D scan will show whether it suits you.
